In Retrospect

In retrospect, one gets so much clarity…

Bryna Blum

After having published “Mourning Pages, A Widow’s Journal of Healing,” to great reviews I might add…

And, after talking to people who have read the book…

And, after telling my story time and again at book readings…

I look back and it all still feels surreal. I say, “Do as I say, not as I did,” which causes me to remember all that went wrong. Would a life coach at the time have helped? Would writing, the one thing I so strongly encourage, have helped? Would joining a support group have helped? What exactly would have made it easier??

I had to go back to work. I had a business to run. Would it have been easier if I didn’t have to get up every day and go into the office? Or, was getting up and doing what I had to do what saved me?

Would it have been easier having my child move home with me when he offered, or would it have been bad for both of us?

There are so many unanswered questions I continue to ask myself. There are so many “what ifs.”

I think it’s these “In retrospect” questions that guide me in helping others in healing from their losses.
